Welcome to Dijon, a human-sized regional capital and dynamic metropolitan city where people enjoy good living and a strong sense of community. Dijon Metropolis is a beautiful urban area and home to some 255,000 inhabitants. It is one of the only urban areas in Greater Eastern France, along with Strasbourg, with a continually increasing population. This demographic dynamism is the result of the city's proactive policy, which has allowed to successfully pursue ambitious projects.
Since 2001, more than 1 billion euros has been invested to equip Dijon with modern infrastructure and facilities worthy of a metropolitan city, including hundreds of new housing units each year and 400 hectares of additional property to welcome new firms. This well-managed strategic development has unquestionably paid off. Since 1st January 2016, Dijon, capital of Burgundy-Franche-Comté, has been ranked as one of the 13 leading French capitals. These and similar rankings are published in the national press and regularly recognise the evolution and growth of our magnificent city.
International city of gastronomy and wine
However, there is one distinction in which we take particular pride: the dual recognition of UNESCO, which showcases Dijon’s exceptional achievements! Our safeguarded sector is one of the biggest in France and is an integral part of the designated area of the Climates of Burgundy’s vineyards, which have been inscribed on the World Heritage list since July 2015. In addition, the International Gastronomy and Wine Exhibition Centre will open its doors to the public at the end of 2018. It will promote the Gastronomic Meal of the French, which was added to the Intangible Cultural Heritage list in November 2010.This major project will resonate internationally in a field where Dijon naturally shines: taste, nutrition, health, gastronomy, wine, culture, and the art of living.
Quality of life and ecology go hand in hand
With the unfailing support of the region’s economic players, Dijon is building a future in the footsteps of its great history and it is doing so through its key asset: quality of life. In fact, the city is about to become an indisputable ecological reference in France. Located in an exceptional area at the start of an internationally renowned wine-growing region, and nestled in between three regional and national parks, Dijon is the perfect blend of quality of life and successful economic and tourist development. Now, more than ever, is the time to invest in the capital city of Dijon.
